BREAKING: Naya Rivera’s body has been discovered
Naya Rivera’s body has been discovered.
Her body was found Monday morning in Lake Piru, about 56 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles according to reports.
Rivera, 33, went missing Wednesday after renting a pontoon boat on the lake. Her son was found asleep on the boat but she was nowhere to be found.
Her remains was found concealed within some of the shrubbery on the floor bed, with heavy brush and trees around, according to reports.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Capt. Eric Buschow told KTLA news,
“We had boat crews on the lake at first light this morning with divers, and they discovered the body floating. This is an area where we have been searching very hard because we believe it was where she was last seen.”
Authorities say there is no indication of foul play or suicide, but that an autopsy will be conducted to determine a cause of death.
Rivera’s family was gathered at the dock Monday as authorities recovered the body.
“It’s being really tragic and obviously rollercoaster of emotion for them, too. Finding out she’s missing then this day-to-day wait [of] not knowing,” Buschow said. “Hopefully this provides some level of closure.”
Rivera is a native of Valencia, about 20 miles from Lake Piru.
She began her career as an actress at the age of 4, appearing in TV shows like “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Family Matters” and “The Bernie Mac Show” and several national TV commercials.
She was famous for her iconic role, Santana Lopez on the Fox musical comedy-drama “Glee” from 2009 to 2015.
She is survived by two younger siblings — Mychal Rivera, who was drafted by the Oakland Raiders as a tight end in 2013, and Nickayla Rivera, a Wilhelmina model.
Strangely, her death is the third tragedy to hit the “Glee” cast. The discovery of her remains eerily coincides with the anniversary of her “Glee” co-star Cory Monteith’s death.
In 2013, Cory Monteith, who played Finn Hudson, died of a drug overdose.
In 2018, Mark Salling, who played Noah “Puck” Puckerman, committed suicide months after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography.
In same 2013, assistant director Jim Fuller died in his sleep of suspected heart failure in 2013, and production assistant Nancy Motes — the half-sister of Julia Roberts — committed suicide the following year.
Is there a curse on the “Glee” cast? Tell us in the comments.
Rest in peace, Naya.
