Is Kanye West Crazy or Telling the Truth?
On Monday night, Kanye West went on a Twitter rant that had social media on a frenzy and set tongues wagging about his mental health.
The 43-year-old father and rapper accused his wife Kim Kardashian West and mother-in-law Kris Jenner of trying to lock him up in a mental ward after his presidential campaign rally in South Carolina over the weekend.
In a lengthy and emotional speech, Kanye covered a wide variety of topics like how he’d like to meet George Soros to build homes in Africa and Instagram brainwashing people.
Sometime into his speech, Kanye tearfully yelled “I almost killed my daughter” a couple of times – admitting that he wanted Kim to abort their first born-year-old daughter, North West.
Kim, 39, was reportedly pissed at her husband’s declarations during the rally, and she expressed concern about his mental health.
“As many of you know, Kanye has bi-polar disorder. Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand. I’ve never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home because I am very protective of our children and Kanye’s right to privacy when it comes to his health. But today, I feel like I should comment on it because of the stigma and misconceptions about mental health.
I understand Kanye is subject to criticism because he is a public figure and his actions at times can cause strong opinions and emotions. He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words some times do not align with his intentions.”
But Kanye was just getting warmed up.
In a series of now deleted tweets, Kanye West accused Kim and her mother, Kris Jenner, of engaging in “white supremacy”.
Kanye then compared his situation to the movie Get Out while claiming that Kim tried to lock him up.
The movie Get Out is a 2017 horror flick by director Jordan Peele.
It is about a young Black man who visits his white girlfriend’s family only to discover that he and other black men were being recruited for a sinister purpose.
The movie was a box office hit and the term “sunken place” became a popular phrase.
The “sunken place” refers to a state of complete dissociation where slaves are taken to using hypnotic triggers, elements of neuro-linguistic programming, and references to childhood trauma.
As done to the character Chris Washington portrayed by Daniel Kaluuya.
Many social media users speculated that the movie was eerily about Kanye West being warned to get out of the sunken place and to sever ties with the Kardashians.
In 2018, Kanye announced on Twitter that he was out of the “sunken place”, giving credence to earlier speculations.

He further claimed that the Kardashians were trying to “5150 him” – referring to the California law code for “temporary, involuntary psychiatric commitment of individuals who present a danger to themselves or others due to signs of mental illness”.
He said he’d been trying to divorce Kim for years after she and rapper Meek Mill met up and attended a criminal justice summit in November 2018.
Kanye didn’t stop there and called his mother-in-law, “Kris Jong-Un.”
Kanye continued in his tweetfest professing his love for Kim:
“I love my wife My family must live next to me It’s not up to E or NBC anymore.”
Then said Kris Jenner is not allowed near his children and accused her of photographing Kim for Playboy and being behind the sale of her infamous sex tape with Ray J.
Is Kanye crazy or is he telling the truth?
Since Kanye’s tweetfest, many have called him crazy while others have argued that he isn’t.
To know if he’s crazy or telling the truth, let’s fact check his claims.
Let’s go back in time to 2016 when Kanye was placed in “5150” hold after his infamous rant in Sacramento.
Fact check #1
Kanye’s hospitalization occurred only days after his infamous rant during a concert in Sacramento.
He showed support for Trump and lashed out against Mark Zuckerberg, Beyoncé and Jay-Z (while pleading him to not send ‘killers at his head’) in his rant.
Kanye spent 10 days at the Reagan UCLA Medical Center and emerged a changed person.
He was spotted with bleached hair (red flag!) when he was released and he literally lost his memory for several months afterward.
“Now you’re just reaching, Tamara True. What’s so special about bleached or blonde hair? Kanye could have wanted a new look”, you may say.
But I highly doubt that Kanye’s most pressing concern during his hospitalization was to bleach his hair.
Interestingly, in the world of MK Ultra, MK slaves are often identified with blond hair or wigs.
So how did Kanye lose his memory? What kind of treatment(s) made him lose his memory?
One treatment infamous for memory loss and used in MK Ultra is electroshock or medically known as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
Here’s an except on ECT:
“Memory loss is the primary side effect associated with ECT treatment. Most people experience what’s called retrograde amnesia, which is a loss of memory of events leading up to and including the treatment itself. Some people’s memory loss is longer and greater with ECT. Some have trouble recalling events that occurred during the weeks leading up to treatment, or the weeks after treatment. Others lose memories of events and experiences in their past.
Memory loss generally improves within a few weeks after ECT treatment. As with psychiatric medications, no professional or doctor can tell you for certain what kind of memory loss you will experience, but virtually all patients experience some memory loss. Sometimes the memory loss in some patients is permanent.”
– PsychCentral, Risks of Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
Was electroshock therapy used on Kanye?
Four months after his forced hospitalization, longtime friend Malik Yussef said,
“I’ve been to his house sat down with him for about six, seven hours, just walking through his health and recovery. His memory is coming back, which is super good. [He’s] just healing, spending time with his family.”
In an interview with David Letterman, Kanye spoke up about his experience:
“They handcuff you, they drug you, they put you on the bed, and they separate you from everyone you know. When you’re in this state, you’re hyper-paranoid about everything. Everyone — this is my experience, other people have different experiences — everyone now is an actor. Everything’s a conspiracy. You feel the government is putting chips in your head. You feel you’re being recorded. You feel all these things.”
Since that episode, Kanye simply hasn’t been the same. So he’s got a point. Second time isn’t a charm for him.
Fact Check #2
For years, there have been strong rumors claiming that Kris Jenner was the brains behind her daughter, Kim‘s sex tape stunt.
In April 2016, Ian Halperin alleged in his book Kardashian Dynasty that Kim and her mother, Kris Jenner, had deliberately leaked the sex tape to Vivid Entertainment.
According to Halperin,
“A mutual friend of Kim and Paris Hilton had advised her that if she wanted to achieve fame, a sex tape would be the way to go … Kim had discussed the idea of producing a tape with her family beforehand … It was Kris who engineered the deal behind the scenes [with Vivid Entertainment] and was responsible for the tape seeing the light of day”.
But a representative for Kardashian and Jenner denied all of Halperin’s assertions.
Does Kanye still sound crazy?
Fact check #3
Strangely, Kanye also tweeted about Michael Jackson’s feud with Tommy Mottola – former CEO of Sony in his tweets.
Kanye was referring to a video of late Michael Jackson talking about his financial dispute with Sony and how Tommy Mottola controlled his ex-wife Mariah Carey.
In essence, Kanye postulated that MJ was killed for spilling secrets and rebelling against Tommy Mottola and Sony.
Which – if you think about it – kinda connects the dots to his forceful hospitalization in 2018 after speaking against Jay Z and Hollywood.
Kanye may seem bipolar and cuckoo, but after being drugged for months, anyone would be off their rocker too.
But when you take into account the bizarre happenings in Hollywood and how it is tightly controlled (MK themes), everything he tweeted kinda makes sense.
To quote a famous saying, “There is sense in nonsense.”
His erratic behavior may be reasons why people don’t take him seriously but to those who get what he is saying, he makes perfect sense.
It is glaring to anyone that Kanye badly wants to get away from the Kardashian clan or coven as people call them.
He is yet another man to be involved with the Kardashians who ended up in dire straits: Scott Disick, Bruce Jenner and Lamar Odom are noteworthy examples.
Shortly after Kanye’s Twitter tirade, comedian Dave Chapelle visited him at his $14m ranch in Wyoming; a most timely and befitting visit, if you ask me.
After all, who knows better than Dave Chapelle about “crazy” people in Hollywood.
