Naya Rivera of “Glee” fame missing after boating incident
Naya Rivera of hit series “Glee” is missing and search for her is still ongoing, after a Wednesday boating incident on a California lake.
According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Rivera rented a pontoon boat at about 1 p.m. for her and her 4-year-old son, Josey, to take out onto Lake Piru.
But about 5 p.m. local time, a boater found Josey, sleeping all alone in the boat — three hours after Rivera rented the vessel, reports CBS Los Angeles.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said they deployed air and dive teams to “search for [a] possible drowning victim,”
Rivera’s son told authorities his mom didn’t get back into the boat after the two went swimming.
It still isn’t clear how the child got back into the boat.
Josey was found wearing a life vest but officials believe Rivera did not have hers on, as an adult life vest was found on board the boat.
Her purse and wallet were also found on the boat, along with food, NBS Los Angeles reported, citing officials.
“This is considered to be a horrible accident,” Ventura County Sheriff’s Department officials said, expressing that no foul play was suspected.
Rivera played Santana Lopez, a cheerleader in the musical-comedy “Glee” that aired on Fox from 2009 until 2015.
On Tuesday, the 33 year old actress posted a picture on Instagram of herself and son, Josey kissing.
“Just the two of us,” she wrote.
Rivera’s 4-year-old son is from a marriage with actor Ryan Dorsey. The couple finalized their divorce in June 2018 after nearly four years of marriage.
She called her young son “my greatest success, and I will never do any better than him” in her 2016 memoir “Sorry Not Sorry.”
I pray she’s found. No child should have to lose their mother so young and so tragically.
